Skate Parks on the Sunshine Coast

HERE’S THE LOWDOWN ON
SUNSHINE COAST SKATE PARKS
SOME CLOSE TO BUDERIM & OTHERS IN THE HINTERLAND OR ON THE COAST

• Alexandra Headlands Skate Park
Alexandra Pde, Alexandra Headlands
Built in 1995, Alexandra Skate Park is one of the most popular & publicly recognised skate parks in Queensland. Renowned for its crowds & idyllic location, Alex Skate Park is used by skaters, BMX riders, bladers & scooters of all skill levels.
Being set in a scenic, highly visible location in a community space right next to the beach, means Alex Skate Park is very popular with local skaters & visitors alike. If you like an audience, it’s the place to be seen.

• Bli Bli Skate Park
Muller Park, David Low Way, Bli Bli
With its smooth banks & 4 ft quarter pipe hips & ramps, Bli Bli Skate Park offers a smooth ride for skaters of all skill levels.
Constructed in early 2002, the park is situated in a recreation reserve (Muller Park) that currently offers a variety of recreational alternatives including fishing, ball sports (cricket, football, soccer etc.), BBQ’s & picnics. The park provides a small variety of basic elements that can comfortably withstand 7-9 skaters at any one point in time.
Located adjacent to the David Low Way & approx. 2 kms east of the local convenience stores & Bli Bli Caravan Park, the skate park is ideally sited in terms of public visibility.

• Chancellor Park Skate Spines
1. Windmill Park, Oxford Close, Sippy Downs
2. Sir Raleigh Drive, Sippy Downs
The Chancellor skate spines are unique to Maroochy Shire in their design & linear elements that take the skate parks into the pedestrian & bike path networks. Presenting skate experiences outside the standard skate park ‘box’, the spines offer users a variety of experiences that do not necessarily confine their use to the small spaces that currently define the core elements of the skate parks.
The parks provide several small basic elements (flat bank, quarter pipe & launch pad/grind box) with varying level ledges along the path networks. These grind ledges offer users three different experiences, with each grind ledge offering a variance in height. While the Sir Raleigh Drive park is small, the inclusion of street elements into the path network is a positive aspect in implementing alternatives in an otherwise confined & restricted space. Windmill Park provides additional elements (stairs & rails) & is situated near the basketball hoop & children's playground.

• Coolum Skate Park
Tickle Park, Coolum Beach
The Coolum facility is located adjacent to Tickle Park & the beach. It is opposite a strip of restaurants & shops. It comprises a continuous bowl junior half pipe, grind block, slide rail, vertical wall drops, manual pod & pump feature.

• Eudlo Skate Park
Rosebed St, opp. Post Office, Eudlo
With its mix of street & skate elements, Eudlo Skate Park provides skaters, bladers & bikers with a smooth ride plus plenty of challenge.
Constructed in early 2003, the park is situated in an ideal high visibility area, adjacent to the primary school, opposite the local shop & post office. Also adjacent are the tennis courts & railway station with the park offering its own BBQ facility & toilets, with plenty of shade. The park provides a variety of elements that can comfortably accommodate 3-4 skaters at any one time.

• Eumundi Skate Park
Eumundi Sports Ground, Memorial Drive, Eumundi
Eumundi is the newest of the Coast's skate parks & was officially opened in September 2006. It is situated in the Eumundi sports ground, Memorial Drive when entering town from the southern side. This area will continue to develop over time as a sporting & recreation precinct. The bowl caters for a range of users from beginner to intermediate.

• Kenilworth Skate Park
Maleny/Kenilworth Rd, Kenilworth
Completed in 2000, Kenilworth Skate Park is ideally located amongst a host of community facilities that contribute to the overall recreation experience of both onlookers & users of the park. Located adjacent to Maleny/Kenilworth Road, the park currently shares the area with the Kenilworth Pool to the north, Kenilworth Showgrounds to the east, & the Kenilworth State High School to the west.
The park provides a range of ideal skate elements for beginners & intermediate skaters with the elements comprising banks, quarter pipe hips with coping, a mini half pipe & mini spine bank. The park is a popular social location for both skaters & parents who frequent the park during weekends & after school hours.

• Kuluin Skate Park
Kuluin Neighbourhood Park
MacArthur Park, off Tallowwood Drive, Kuluin
The Kuluin skate park is located in the northern strip of Kuluin Neighbourhood Park, off Tallow Wood Drive & has been designed to accommodate elements that cater to the variety of requirements of local residents.
Shade sails were installed but unfortunately have been removed due to continued vandalism.

• Mapleton Skate Park
Mapleton Lilyponds Park,
off Delicia Rd, Mapleton
The Mapleton Lilyponds Mini-skatebowl was constructed following extensive community consultation in 2001. The facility boasts two flat banks, two grind rails, a tabletop, a mini spine, two quarter pipes & a curved bowl. Incorporating a balanced mix of ramp & street elements, the facility is ideal for beginners & intermediates.
Council also integrated community feedback to design passive & active recreation areas in the main parklands to retain the Lilyponds' natural, leafy character.

• Mudjimba Skate Park (Great for younger or beginner skaters)
David Low Way & Mudjimba Esp
Mudjimba
Mudjimba Skate Park offers users a series of small, closely-placed skate elements that are ideal for beginners.
The park contains a variety of elements, ranging from a curved quarter pipe & flat-banks to a grinding box. The park's appeal to a younger group makes the facility important, given conflicts at other facilities arising from age & experience level. It contains limited support facilities however, such as seating, shade or drinking taps. The park has limited public visibility due to its isolated location & therefore parental supervision is recommended for younger users.

• Nambour Skate Park
Petrie Park, Nambour
Renowned for its 6ft Steel half pipe, Nambour Skate Park is home to the majority of skaters, BMX riders, & bladers of Nambour. Located at Petrie Park, approx. 1 km west of the commercial precinct of Nambour, the skate park offers a variety of skate & bike elements.
While the park remains a popular destination for its skaters, bladers & BMX riders, it is an older-style facility. Newly installed elements include a transition platform, transition wedge, central slide rail, quarter pipe & grind box.

• Pacific Paradise Skate Park
Cnr Boomba & Karome St
Pacific Paradise
Pacific Paradise Skate Park is located within a park adjacent to a dirt bike track & a play set. It is also close to the nearby shopping centre, however visibility of the park is poor. The park is in an otherwise sound location, with ancillary facilities comprising a playground, basketball half court, BMX dirt track, natural shade & seating structures

• Palmwoods Skate Park
Montville Rd (Cnr Dunning St)
Palmwoods
Completed in late 2002, Palmwoods Skate Park is located adjacent to the swimming pool & tennis courts within easy walking distance to shops & rail.
The park provides a range of skate elements ideal for beginners & intermediate skaters including banks, quarter pipes, grind rails & a fun box. The park is popular with skaters, bladers & bikers, comfortably accommodating 3-4 skaters at any one time.

• Yandina Skate Park
Wonga Park, Farrell St Yandina
One of the most popular suburban/local skate parks in Maroochy Shire, Yandina skate park provides a well-balanced mix of ramp & street elements that make it the ideal ‘skate’ experience for beginners & intermediates.
Located adjacent to Farrell Street (Old Bruce Highway), Yandina Skate Park provides 4 basic elements creating a facility that is simple in its function yet diverse in the varying options available for skaters. The park caters for a high rate of skaters & BMX riders and has potential to expand to the west.
